Grass that bites

Today was the first day the grass bit me for ages - yep, nasty fire ants crawled onto my foot and stung me loads whilst we were at ELWA Beach. I've been waiting for this moment ever since we arrived back in Liberia at the beginning of February - its symbolic and means we're really back! Fire ants are a pain here and many Liberian children grow up with legs that are forever scarred by bites and the scratching that follows. Olly

Thank you for posting this! That is exactly what's on our son's legs! I have wondered what it could be!

Thanks,
Brandi

reminds me of a time in Ghana--Emmanuel and I had gone out in I think #939, one of the smaller vehicles that was our "date car". We brought home a pizza in the back seat, and when I went to grab it after we got home my hand and arm were covered with raging fire ants--the car was infested!! Apparently another crew member who drove it every day to the village had been saying for weeks she thought the car was "biting" her, but never could find the cause--all it took was a pizza to bring them out!
